Mental Illness Awareness Week - March Update

MIAW News - March 2009

Dear Supporter of Mental Illness Awareness Week:
Welcome to the March edition of the 2009 Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) newsletter. Planning for MIAW 2009 is well underway, and we would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters for making the MIAW 2008 campaign a huge success.

In this month's newsletter:

  1. 2009 Faces Campaign - Accepting nominations until April 6th
  2. Sponsorship and Fundraising - How you can help

2009 Faces Campaign - Nominate a Face before April 6th!
We would like to say another big thank you to Vicky, Tazz, Annie, Sherri and Sue, the 2008 Faces of Mental Illness. These individuals are the cornerstone of the Faces campaign.

The theme for Mental Illness Awareness Week 2009 will once again be Face Mental Illness, Recovery is Possible. We are looking for individuals from across Canada of all ages and diverse backgrounds who are interested and willing to be Faces in this year's campaign. Their stories will be featured on our posters, brochures and bookmarks, as well as on our website (www.miaw.ca) and in outdoor advertisements across the country.

If you or someone you know would like to be considered as a Face for MIAW 2009, please use the online nomination form on our website, or contact Jacqueline Haarsma at jacqueline.haarsma@fleishman.ca to request a nomination form.

The deadline for Faces nominations is April 6th, 2009

Candidates must be:

  • Comfortable talking about their personal stories in a public setting,
  • Willing to be photographed and to have their photograph appear on campaign materials and in various print publications,
  • Available to do interviews in the weeks leading up to and during MIAW (October 4-10, 2009),
  • Available to attend the Seventh Annual Champions of Mental Health Awards in Ottawa (October 6, 2009), and
  • Aware that you are nominating them for this highly visible and very important role.

Sponsorship & Fundraising - How you can help
Mental Illness Awareness Week runs exclusively on the funding and support we receive from our sponsors and contributors, and the survival of the campaign is contingent on this continued support. If your organization or someone you know would like to be a sponsor or contributor, please let us know. We have expanded our sponsorship categories to give everyone an opportunity to show their support of MIAW, through both cash and in-kind contributions. To request a sponsorship package, please send us an email.

Once again - thank you for your continued support! If you want to contribute in any way, please let me know.
